MENTAL HEALTH

Short-term individual counselling and group therapy is offered to patients with mild to moderate mental health conditions, with a specific focus on depression and/or anxiety.  This program uses an eclectic approach, focusing on assisting patient in transforming negative feelings and thinking patterns, increasing behavioural activation and improving self-care, and meeting cherished life goals.

GROUPS

ATTACHMENT WORKSHOP
This workshop provides information about attachment styles and gives practical strategies for identifying and changing uhelpful patterns in relationships. Suitable for anyone interested in strengthening their relationships with partners, friends, or family members. 

BODY POSITIVE GROUP
This 4-week program is led by a dietitian and a social worker and addresses issues related to body image using the Body Positive model. Patients will learn about holistic definitions of health and beauty, intuitive eating, intuitive exercise, and self-love.

COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY (CBT) GROUP
This 6-week group uses techniques from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Group (CBT) to help patients identify and understand how their thoughts about an event or experience powerfully affect their emotional, behvioural and physical responses to it.  Patient will learn to think about themselves and situations in more helpful ways, and to change the thinking patterns and behaviours that keep them stuck in distressing moods and relationships.  Patients will have access to both morning and evening groups.

DBT-BASED SKILLS TRAINING GROUP
This 10-week group program teaches many of the skills from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and is ideal for patients experiencing difficulty managing their emotions or coping with challenging life circumstances. Please note this is NOT a full DBT program.

GRIEF WORKSHOP
This workshop is suitable for anyone who has experienced the death of a loved one, recently or in the past. The workshop provides information about the grieving process and strategies that can promote healing after a loss. 

MINDFULLNESS BASED COGNITIVE THERAPY GROUP
This 9-week group utilizes structure, reflection and insight to give patients skills and understanding, designed to help them deal more effectively with persistent unwanted mood states.  Patients will learn to recognize ruminative worry and driven-doing as they arise in their moment-by-moment experience and to see them for what they are.  Patients will also learn to cultivate an alternative mode of mind, using mindfulness techniques, that allows them to respond more skillfully to sadness, unhappiness, and other unpleasant emotions and unwanted inner experiences.

SELF-CARE WORKSHOP
This 1.5 hour workshop is ideal for anyone who struggles to make self-care a priority or identify their own needs. The following topics are addressed: Definition of self-care, understanding the importance of self-care, barriers to self-care, how to engage in self-care (including free or low-cost activities, and goal setting for self-care.
